Drawn In

1st Aug – 31st Aug

Friends since their school days, Melissa, Chaya and Jessica, have always

encouraged each other to create art.

They each have a distinct style, very different from one another.

From Chaya’s vibrant and expressive oil paintings, to Jessica’s

explorations in clay, to Melissa’s powerful communications in pen and ink, their work is different but drawn together by shared experiences and values.

Flow

“Flow” is my artistic journey to capture the dynamic and ever-changing shapes of nature, embracing spontaneity and movement in my creative process. Where chance and chaos collide with form and intention, designed to evoke kinetic energy.

These works are inspired by aerial landscapes, clouds, nebula, the movement of water, the way oil moves in even the smallest of puddles, the patterns that seem to replicate across the natural world.

For the past 14 years of my art practice, my approach to applying paint has been to avoid touching the canvas directly. Alternatively, the application of paint is applied in less formal and creative ways such as; squirting, blowing and pouring which often moves through the flow of water with the use of syringes, leaf blowers, dripping and angling the canvas in different ways to replicate the energy of natural movement.

My art practice transitioned recently. I abandoned this arbitrary, self-imposed limitation of creating, in order to explore other applications of mixed media, soils and natural pigments and allow myself to work and engage materially with the canvas directly.

My aim is for the viewer to experience and contemplate the painting from a distance but also be enticed to be drawn in closer and become lost in the complexities and detail. To seek to immerse themselves in the texture, materials and forms in the work.
